Well, we are finally here. Our race has commenced. This is my first blog as sportstar.com’s CEO, and I can tell you it is great, after all the work, to have kicked our first goal and be delivering sportstar.com to women who love sport.
To get here and have sportstar.com match ready we have researched sports in which women play, train and compete. Whether Champions in their own right, National Champions, Junior Champions or World Champions, it has been a fascinating exercise.
We sent our Melbourne reporter Jacqui Wang to visit Peri Campbell-Innes (Table Tennis Champion), we have spoken to Deborah Acason (Weightlifting), and have learnt a lot from Laetisha Scanlan about Shooting, and Runuga Veeran about Badminton. All of these women are well positioned to bring home Gold from the Commonwealth Games. Stephanie and Karon spent an afternoon with Melissa Wu (diving) and what an amazing pocket rocket she is! We’ve also had great support regarding the concept of sportstar.com from the likes of Liz Ellis, Nicole Stevenson and Melinda Gainsford-Taylor.
Not surprisingly, the girls from the lesser watched sports have been a delight to interview. They are just as passionate about what they do as some of the more high profile athletes. We will continue to highlight their excellence in Sport, because we all should know more about them.
My next blog will be looking at some of the amazing World Champion athletes we have.
On the world stage Australian sports women are very well respected. They are seen as tough, competitive and fair. As sportstar.com grows we look forward to speaking to more of our champions. We will be giving opinions, discussing issues, covering all aspects of health and fitness and are also looking forward to getting to know you, our readers.
