Lauryn, back with a personal best

Lauryn, back with a personal best

My apologies for the delay in writing this Blog.  A lot has happened sense the last time I posted news…After a disappointing World Championship result I have had to spend some time reflecting on ways to help increase my overall competition performance.

I have shot in a couple of National qualifying events with a new approach in mind and managed to shoot a Personal Best of 73/75 at the last qualification event finally making me feel like I might be making some progress towards achieving my Olympic Dreams of winning Gold.  If I can achieve a high result once, then I know I am now capable of achieving high results in the future.

On a more personal level, a lot has also been happening hence the delay in writing this Blog.  About a month ago I had a car accident.  I was driving from home to host a Corporate Clay Target Shooting event and made the mistake of focusing on what I had to do for the day instead of paying attention to the traffic ahead.  I was driving 70km per hour when I ran into the back of a stopped Truck.

I was driving Russell’s new Audi, which has since been written off.  With only one car between us it has added an additional strain to the household in this busy period.  One lesson I did learn is that when you drive you MUST pay attention.  LOL.

My other bit of news is much more recent…it’s news that I am sure you are aware of but believe it or not Qantas has got me again.  After shooting the event on Saturday my fellow team member Laura Coles and I proceeded to the airport.  We checked in as usual and were waiting in Qantas Club for the return flight.  With boarding time only 10 min away an announcement was made that ‘all Qantas planes were grounded immediately and indefinitely’.  We were told to proceed to the counter to receive our refund, to collect our bags and find an alternative way home.  It was chaos as everyone tried to collect bags and quickly get to the other terminal to get any remaining Virgin or Jetstar flights.

Without going into too much detail I was able to get a 7:10am flight out the following morning paying 3 times the amount I had originally paid but my team mate Laura was stuck in Sydney for 3 days until she could get her flight back to Perth.  I can’t help but think that although this was an inconvenience to me how much some people will be affected by these groundings. What a mess!

The good news is that I spent the night in Sydney finally feeling happy with my performance.
