One of only two sports played exclusively by women at the Games, (the other being netball), synchronised swimming demands a level of fitness that matches the demands of the very toughest sports around.
While it is pure ballet, beauty and smiles on the surface, below water swimmers work at the outer edge of anaerobic energy to maintain position, poise and balance.
