I first met Matildas striker Lisa De Vanna eight years ago when I was 18 years old.  Although “met” is a bit strong, she probably doesn’t remember it and I mostly saw her boots and 6 or 7 goals (lost count after 5) go by me as a goalkeeper in the WA Women’s Premier League.

Few people know Australian Athletics like former track star Melinda Gainsford-Taylor. Melinda is one of the national selectors for the Australian Track and Field Team and she confirms something we’ve discovered at sportstar.com about succession planning in sport. Australia couldn’t field women competitors in key Athletics events at the Delhi Games.  No Aussie girls in the 200 metres, 800 metres or the 4 x 100 metres relay. It’s one of the clarion calls that caused us to establish sportstar.com – there would be a riot if the Australian men’s cricket team couldn’t field a side!
