Anna’s winter championships

Anna’s winter championships

Hi everyone!

I just got back from my school holidays last weekend. Our school had a month holiday, so, for four weeks, my Mum and brother and I went back to Sydney to catch up with friends and family. We had a great time, and I was really busy for the entire trip.

Just before the holidays I competed in my swimming club’s Winter Championships. It’s pretty funny, because here in Singapore there really is no winter and it was held in the middle of the summer months. (The temperature here is always between about 24 degrees at night and 34-36 degrees during the day – both winter and summer!)  I was pretty happy with my results that day.

I did a personal best (PB) in each of my different races. All my races were very close, with only milliseconds between first and second. I came second in all of them except backstroke, which I won – also by milliseconds.

I’m really happy because my butterfly and backstroke times are improving really quickly and I broke 31 seconds for 50m Freestyle. (I have been trying to do that for ages and now I have to aim to break 30). Overall I came second for my age group. I had a great time that day and I got to spend a lot of time with my friends and compete against them.

Over the holidays in Sydney I had such a great time. I spent lots of time with all my friends from my primary school, my old swimming club and some from my netball teams. I enjoyed seeing them.

I decided that I’d like to swim at least one Friday night club meet race with my old club to be able to catch up with my friends. I swam three races as usual. After we swam I went to the McDonalds up the road with a couple of friends and had dinner and played in the playground just to catch up because I hadn’t seen them for such a long time. I also swam a couple of times at a different club with one of the other coaches I have trained with before. He helped me concentrate on my starts, turns and finishes. I really need to improve them. He thinks I am losing up to half a second a lap due to my turns, and that my finishes are not aggressive enough.

Now that I am back I am going to continue practicing my starts, turns and finishes. I am going to train hard for my school swimming carnival in 4 weeks time. This week we started our 5:30am starts for training again. It is so hard to get used to the early starts. This week I will also be watching the FINA swimming from Shanghai in China on TV. I love to watch the best in the world competing.

For my school sport I have changed my co-curricular activities (after school activities). Last term I was doing athletics and European Handball, but this term I want to do School Representative Touch Football – I hope I get selected.

Thank you all so much for all the comments, I really appreciate it. I will write again in a couple weeks time to keep you all up to date with my school swimming carnival and everything else I have been doing.

Until next time,

Anna

your amazing!!!!! r u the best swimmer in your swim club??

    • Anonymous

No. I came second in my age group in the club, and many of the older swimmers are much faster than me. When I train, I swim against some swimmers who are up to 18 years old.  I try to match them as much as I can.

Do you have any friends who are faster swimmers than you in singapore?? in your age group?

    • Anonymous

I do have a couple of friends who are faster than me but I like to try to pace myself against them to improve.

    What is your best stroke??

    • Anonymous

I really don’t know what my best stroke is – My Dad thinks I am a backstroker, and many others tell me that other strokes are better.  My coach thinks breaststroke is my best stroke.

R u a sprinter or do you do 200m races??

    • Anonymous

I don’t know whether I am a sprinter or a longer distance racer. I like to race short races and longer races although I haven’t raced any 800m events yet.

My family think I am better at longer distance though.

I am sorry it took so long to post this.  I submitted it several weeks ago, but it didn’t get posted until just the last few days.  I will try to post more often.
