Anna Suters, racing all strokes

Hi everyone!

It’s been a while since I last blogged and a lot has happened since then. I’ve been in a few competitions for both swimming and athletics.

I was in Hong Kong about a month ago. It was great, I had so much fun. I swam in all the strokes and felt good about all of my races.  I came 4th in all of them except for my 100m Backstroke – I came 3rd in that J It was a great experience to swim in a new pool overseas, especially for a competition. It was really different to swim with the people there; it was a lot more competitive and everyone was quite good. Since Hong Kong was a place my family had never been to before we did some sightseeing, saw many different shops and ate lots of new food. I didn’t mind eating the food, but Andrew (my brother) didn’t like it too much. I really liked the Vietnamese noodles. They were really good.

On the last day before we left, we went to Disneyland. At Disneyland we went on lots of rides, but I have to admit that my favourite ride was the Buzz Light Year one because we got to sit in a moving cart and shoot targets. I also really enjoyed the Space Mountain Roller-coaster.

When we came back I found out I had broken the record for the 100m Backstroke at my club while I was overseas. I was really proud because I could never break any of the records at my old club. It’s times like these when I appreciate all the training and getting up early in the morning (and sometimes fighting with Mum when she wakes me up at 4:30am!).

I swam the Neptune League not long ago. Neptune League is a small meet involving several different clubs and is held about 3 or 4 times a year at different club locations. This one was held at the short course (25m) pool at the Singapore Island Country Club. All the participating clubs bring their best swimmers, so the competition is pretty strong. I swam in the Freestyle Relay, Medley Relay, the 50m Butterfly and the 50m Backstroke. I did pretty well that day. I got personal bests (PBs) in both my individual races and I won 1st place in both. In the Freestyle Relay we won, but in the Medley Relay our first swimmer in the Backstroke leg slipped on the wall and got a really late start. We never really recovered the time we lost at the start and finished second.  I had a lot of fun at this meet, it was great. I really enjoyed it because I swam well, it didn’t last all day, and I got to spend some time with my friends.

Last weekend I decided to run at the French International School (Lycée Français de Singapour). I ran in the 200m. It was one of the first events of the day and I was going to have to wait until the end because I was going home with a friend. There were many free spaces during the day so I thought I should run instead of doing nothing the whole day. I entered myself in three more events, when I was originally only going to be running in one event! I ran in the 80m, the girls relay and the boys relay (U12’s was the youngest age group and they couldn’t bring any boys down an age group so I offered to run, and I was allowed). I think I did pretty well considering I’m not really a runner. I came 4th in the 200m, we came 1st in the girls relay and 2nd in the boys relay. I don’t know what I came in the 80m though as I forgot to check that one. I had a lot of fun that day.  I really enjoyed the fact that I got to run against the boys and show them that girls are good at sports too.

      Hi Sportspublicity,
I am under 13 still. I am twelve now but will turn 13 in a few months. I am still swimming as a 12yo here in Singapore.  The time of year I was born has meant that sometimes I compete against girls who are almost 1 year older than me.I have always lived in Australia, but just this year moved to Singapore because my Dad took a job here.  I am swimming with a local club here, and last weekend in the Club’s  Winter Championships I ranked second in my age group.  I have swum in the NSW State Championships in Sydney and in the Singapore National Championships here in Singapore and in lots of club meets. My Dad bought me a book written by Nadine Neumann called “Wobbles”  (which was personally signed by her) about her life.  I read her story and that inspires me.  She is a lot like me.

      Thank you for your encouragement.

      Burnnn,

Hi.  I think I am alright at school, but Mum and Dad sometimes tell me I can do better.  But I like to do well at school. Also, Mum and Dad tell me that I have to keep doing well at school or I might have to give up swimming.

      Thanks Tyler.

I have to tell you that all the words in the blog are mine. But my Dad also checks to make sure that I have written it properly and helps me to remember some things that I have forgotten. Sometimes it is hard to think what to write, but my Mum and Dad help me.  Also sometimes they make me concentrate on writing my next blog.

Heyy anna, i also live in Singapore and go to UWC. Which school do you go to?? I have a friend who is an AMAZZZING swimmer and swims in you swim club! i think shed might have been first or third in you age group! who are your other age-group good swimmers.

    • Anonymous

Lauren,  I go to Australian International School.  We have lots of good swimmers in my club at my age.  In my last club meet I came second in my age. Between first and second and third all the races were very close. I am sure I will know your friend. Maybe next time we swim she can tell me.  I really love swimming in my club because the races are so close.

Thanks for the messages. I like to know about other people also.

what are your interests apart from swimming and athletics?

    • Anonymous

Adelenewman, I guess I am like all girls. I like being with my friends. I enjoy music and I watch TV – at the moment I like Glee and Masterchef from Australia. And I like to watch the American Idol and Australian Idol shows.

Are you the best swimmer in your school??

    • Anonymous

At my school there are many good swimmers.  I think maybe the Australians like to swim, so there is always lots of competition when we race.  At my school, many of the swimmers also swim for other clubs in Singapore as well.

  • Amy-skating

Pls can you write more blogs?

    • Lisajones

Hey Anna I agree with amy. If you want more fans you have to start writing more blogs and being consistent with them.

      • Anonymous

Hi Lisajones.  Thank you for your comment (and also Amy).  I will try to write more often, but it is hard to fit in with my schoolwork and my sports and training and homework.

I just got back from holidays in Sydney, and I couldn’t write a blog from there, but there is a new one about to be posted.

Thank you for your comments, and I do appreciate your feedback.
